Here are just a few of our top ideas (see the full list for more):
5 tried-and-true favorites!
1. grub hunt: canned-food collection
Split into teams. Each team has an hour to collect a specific list of canned foods by going door-to-door. Take the donated loot to your local food bank. Not sure what to put on your list? Call the food bank and ask what they need most.
Twist: Make this an additional TRIBE challenge and award points to the teams who find and bring back the food the quickest.
2. soup or ’scaping
Contact your local soup kitchen and ask if they need any landscaping, painting, or other manual labor done. You could also serve food during a meal rush or choose to break your fast with the folks eating there.
3. know your generations
Go hang out at a nursing home. Play games, take walks, or just talk with the residents. Your presence will be welcome since a lot of residents don’t often get visitors.
4. brownbag it
Make sack lunches and deliver them to hospital waiting rooms or to the homeless in your area. Write an encouraging note or Bible passage on the outside of each bag.
5. the amazingly trashy race
Need a worthwhile activity with minimal planning? Hold a contest to see which group of students can collect the most trash. Only junk found on the ground is fair game — no raiding trash cans. Be sure to take your youth to a safe area that could use a good cleanup. Winners could get a two-liter of premium, extra-tasty juice!
