We’re heading to Malawi!

For the past several years, the 30 Hour Famine has partnered with Nazarene churches around the country to designate their funds to a specific food project in Malawi. After several years, the project is near completion and we are taking a group of leaders & students to visit the project and witness the ways their Famine funds have made a difference. In just about 5 weeks, this team will be taking off to the beautiful country of Malawi & will be filling all of us in on what they find! So….let’s meet the team: Lee, Brooklyn, Sierra, Alix, Molly, Teresa, Sherwin, & Matt!

Matt Pollock / Lafayette, IN

Matt loves helping young people realize their place in God’s story of redemption and partnering with them to become disciples of Jesus Christ. He is trying to teach and show students how to love and serve the least as he figures out how to do so too. He married up to his wife Nicole, and together they have a vibrant little boy named Britton. One day, Matt will cry tears of joy when his beloved Chicago Cubs finally win a World Series.

Alix Scott / Oklahoma City, OK

I’m majorly involved in everything-from drama to leading children’s church! I’m the stage manager in my drama department and I have a leadership role in my school Linkcrew program. I’m also well known for my goofy facial expressions and my ability to laugh at myself, which is good since I tend to be on the clumsy side!

Teresa Garner /Jackson, MI

Teresa loves Jesus, her hubby Ken, her children, her teenagers, and thinks God is amazing!

Molly / Conway, AR

I have a very spontaneous and outgoing personality. I’m really involved in band (trumpet) and love to play any kind of sport. I love doing mission work like going to Belize to help impact children’s lives through education. These trips have been a big part of my life. I will be starting college at The University of Central Arkansas in the fall and plan to attend medical school once I graduate.

Sierra / Dansville, NY

I’m Sierra and I’m so excited to be going on the Study Tour to Malawi this year! I’m a science nerd who wants to be a doctor when I grow up. I love musicals too and have had a great time both seeing them and acting in them. I can’t wait to go on my first international trip and I’m excited to tell everyone about my experiences when I return!

Sherwin “Sher-dawg”/ Marysville, WA

I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the United States when I was 22. I love working with teens and love spicy food!  I’m happily married to my wife, Megan, and we have two daughters, Chloe (2) and Clare (5 months). My family and I recently moved to Washington to serve as the Family Life Pastor at Marysville Church of the Nazarene. Before that, I worked for the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM), and was part of the Nazarene 30 Hour Famine team. I went from helping plan the Famine to participating in the famine with the Youth Group at my church. One interesting fact about me? I used to be a sponsored child!

Lee / Kansas City, MO

I live for stories.  And capturing them so that others can hear and see them is a privilege and gift from God.  I love my beautiful wife, handsome son (15), and charming daughter (12). Making videos for kids using clay…definitely love that (check this out!) .  Oh, and peanut butter.  What’s life without peanut butter?

Brooklyn / Lakeland FL

I’m a hard core youth pastor. I have one amazing husband and two adorable daughters. I speak and write from time to time and I love the sound of laughter and waves breaking. I’m a bike rider and friendship seeker and I humbly seek to love justice & do mercy together. You can find out more about me here!
