Back to school

It’s crazy to think that the summer is already coming to an end. It’s time to get back into the swing of things and wake up early for school every day. Yikes!  Going back to school after a summer of fun is always a weird feeling. Was it just me, or did even holding a pencil feel strange on the first day back? You have to refresh yourself on all of the things you forgot over the summer (which was always a lot for me).

Throughout school, one of my favorite things to do in the summer was to go to church camp. It always gave me a deep refreshing breath in my faith. You come out of that week with that “Jesus high”, and you feel like you can do anything with God. More often than not though, once school gets going and you get busy with studies, that high wears off. Now you’re back to the same old things.

Why do we let that high wear off once we get back into school? We can throw excuse after excuse for why this happens. Well friends, I’ve got some news for you: God loves us and is crazy about pursuing us, whether we are in at a park in the summer sun or a crowded classroom. So if that’s the case, then why aren’t we equally pursuing Him with that same love he has for us?

School is a place where cliques are abundant and it is extremely important to be “cool”, which can lead us to hiding our faith from our friends. The people you’re closest to can be the hardest group of people to tell about your faith. There is no denying that. The good news is that God is still right there with us.

A song by Chris Tomlin comes to mind when I think of this:

“If our God is for us

Then who can ever stop us?

And if our God is for us

Then who can stand against?”

Don’t let someone’s opinion stop you from sharing something that you experienced over the summer. What God has done in your life this summer is REAL and don’t forget that.

My challenge for you is this: Don’t lose the fire you have for God when you get back to school. Tell your friends about how God moved you this summer, and then tell people who aren’t your friends. What’s the worst that can happen? They might not listen or think you’re weird? The amazing thing is that, no matter what people say to you, the same God that created the moon and the stars is looking back and smiling at you.

“If our God is for us, then who can ever stop us?”
